TED Mark Pagel

I'm going to give an answer to the question "what do you think about the fact there's a dilemma in our modern globalized world. Whether to keep our 7000 or 8000 different languages or make the world as one with one language."

I think there are negative and positive effects if we all speak one language. First I'm going to state some positives: trade will be easier because there will be no language barrier, also if we al speak one language the European Union won't have to spend so much money on translating everything to 23 different languages, this will save them a lot of money (billions). This money can be used for other things, we need that money, especially now. If you go on vacation to a foriegn country it will also be nice to be able to speak to the foreign people without any problems.

An obvious negative effect is that all teachers who teach students a foreign language will lose their jobs. Another thing is that it is very difficult to learn a new language, if you want people to speak one language they will probably have difficulty learning this new language.

I'm against everybody speaking the same language, it will be too difficult to make everyone speak this one language and I like the variety of languages there are in the world.

phileas fogg

We had to perform a play taught to us by 2 people from the Philleas Fogg theatre from England. I thought the story behind the play (WW1) was interesting and I liked learning about it, but the way they taught us about it wasn't really how I would like to learn about it. I'm not someone who likes to act in a play or other things like that. As long as it isn't me who is acting i don't mind watching it. so if they just acted it out I would have liked it a lot more. Even though I didn't like the acting it was "nice" to really experience how it was for those men fighting in war. It was a better SLV than normal.

social media: overestimated or not?

it isn't overestimated because everybody uses it and it's faster than the newspaper or even the news. During the strike in Egypt, people knew about it thanks to twitter. After some time twitter, facebook, myspace, etc.. were forbidden because that was the way people got news and kept in conact with each other, so even if newspapers and newsstations didn't work, social media kept people in contact and gave them info about it. also a lot of programs use social media as a form of advertising or keeping people interested in the show (oh oh tirol, american idol, dames in de dop, etc...)

toyota ad

The image is nice and easy to remember, and it also makes you curious what this is about. So it grabs your attention to the ad.  The image shows a child in the middle of a plant, feeling save, like a baby in the mother's belly (like foetus). The slogan: '' aim: zero emissions'' is put in the middle of the image, and is standing out. It's short, easy to remember and put in thick letters. They also made use of coulors. ''Zero emissions'' is in white, so it stands out more than ''aim'', the background behind aim is also partly red. You see toyota written in the corner right, so you have an idea what's it's about, it activates your prior knowledge. If all of this interested you, you can read the text in the left corner, which is written in short, white letters. Since this ad is about cars, the target audience are people who have a driving license. the background is a natural place so it's also related to zero emissions.

future and past

I think the future and past are equally important because you can learn from the mistakes and accomplishments you made in the past and use them to make your future better. Your future is important because it's your future, everybody thinks about the future, how am i going to live, who wil i marry, what's gonna be my profession, etc... . So everybody always thinks about the future and tries to make it as good as possible and one of the ways to make it make better is learning from the past.
